IRISH is the research wing of the Malabar Education Society for Human Resource Development and Research (MESHAR) registered under the Government of India Act (Reg. No.277/2000). It has been recognized by Kannur University, Indira Gandhi National Open University (New Delhi) and the Central University of Kerala (Kasergode). It is a Christian minority institution set up with the avowed objective of bringing together scholars on a common platform to share the results of their researches and to disseminate the information to the public through seminars, conferences, publication of monographs, refereed research journal and occasional papers. The institute endeavours to cut across the limited identities of caste, creed and political affiliations to promote inter-disciplinary researches in social sciences and humanities.
IRISH admits research scholars for Doctorate in various disciplines in view of the recognition extended by the universities mentioned above and the current admission policies framed by these universities from time to time. It provides research facilities like library, work space and guidance through the guides recognized by the respective universities. IRISH collectively takes up research projects from various governmental and non-governmental agencies and affiliates individual researchers for Post doctoral Research programmes. It has besides, a regular study centre for IGNOU for undergraduate and postgraduate studies under the distance education mode.
It is run by the contribution of generous scholars through their membership under different categories. Several authors get their works published through IRISH at their own expenses. The Institute often gets publication grants from governmental and non-governmental agencies. Proceeds of the sale of the publications and the income from the Language Lab besides overhead charges for projects funded by the Governmental agencies constitute the fund for the day-to-day running expenditure of the Institute. The office bearers of the Institute do the service without any remuneration from the Institute. Most of them are working as Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in colleges or are retired.
The Head office is located in the Campus of the Nirmalagiri College, Kannur Dt. Kerala. It has three branches, one in Sandesabhavan, Thalasserry, another in Azhikode, Trichur Dt. and the third in the hired premises of KEC Trust Building, Kurumulloor, Kottayam Dt.
